Sate Ajam

The other evening we had quite the wild and crazy BBQ in the lovely backyard garden of our friend Brian. On the menu was green salad, pasta salad, potato salad, meat, tiramisu and lots and lots of booze.

Everyone really enjoyed the tasty chicken satay, or sate ajam that Bas prepared with the help of his Indonesian-Dutch friend. Following are the ingredients for the marinade:

100 ml sunflower oil
100 ml ketjap manis
3 cloves crushed or chopped garlic
lime juice from one lime
1 tablespoon koenjit (turmeric)
1 teaspoon cumin
salt and pepper

Cut up about 4 large chicken breasts or thighs and marinate in the mixture for at least an hour in the refrigerator. Thread onto pre-soaked bamboo skewers and grill until done. Yum!

The salads and the tiramisu were also scrumptious. We wish we could have a BBQ every day!

The Cookie Tester: Bastogne!

It's a lofty goal, but someone has to do it. Test tasting all the cookies sold at Albert Heijn.

Who wouldn't love a cookie with an exclamation point in the name?

These sweet and simple Bastogne! cookies are a nice treat with the after dinner cup of coffee in the evening. A little grainy with a cinnamon-nutmeg flavor, they are big and crunchy.

Since they don't involve any chocolate they are not a favorite, but they are acceptable. Let's just say that some of us love them more than others!

Coming up soon...some really tasty cookie choices!

Tasty Breakfast

Strong coffee and a tasty omelette. That's what a good breakfast is all about. Add a charming location, nice service and good prices... perfection!

We tried a new place for our morning breakfast brainstorming meeting today and we almost don't want to tell you about it because it's a great secret spot. However, it's in kind of an obvious location so you probably already know all about it!

The place is Koffiehuis de Hoek, and it's op de hoek van de Prinsengracht en de Reestraat. Super lekker!

Have you been?
